Amish Country

This morning we woke up early and enjoyed a huge Amish breakfast!
They had all sorts of delicious food!

Can you see the corn field out the window of our hotel?

After breakfast we drove around a little and spotted a pack of buggies! They were all heading in the same direction!

We followed the buggies and ended up at Family Farm Day. We were some of the only non-Amish people there!

They brought along some of their livestock.

Amish kids don't play in sand...they play in corn!

After looking around at the different Amish booths and tents, we took a real buggy ride!

Emilie sat right by the driver!

What a great way to spend the morning!

Now we are on our way back to Columbia!  We should arrive at 10pm but are stuck in some traffic now, so we'll see.

Hershey Pennsylvania and Amish Country

On the way to Amish Country we made a pit stop in HERSHEY, PA.  Chocolate Avenue led us right to our destination!

Check out those street lights!

Welcome to the World of Chocolate!

We toured the factory where Hershey's chocolate got its start!

...and we learned the REAL secret of Hershey...
...it's the MILK! We took a tour through the factory and learned how it all started with the cows and their creamy MILK that makes the chocolate.

The gift shop was Awesome! We spent $100 on Hershey's parafanalia and we're not even ashamed!

After that fantastic pit stop, we arrived near Lancaster, PA in Amish Country!

We ate a family-style supper at a traditional Amish restaurant. This particular one, Plain and Fancy Restaurant, was featured on TV! It was excellent!

The restaurant was on a farm and also happened to be right next to our hotel, the Amish View Inn and Suites!

We are about to settle down for the night and tomorrow we'll tour Amish Country!

Niagara Falls

This morning we woke up early to beat the crowds and to see Niagara Falls!

Apparently the best way to see the falls up close is to ride the Maid of the Mist boat.
We suited up in our ponchos and went for it!

Pictures really don't capture the beauty of the site!

We got a little wet on the boat ride.

Then we went up to the crow's nest for a better look and we really got wet! Emilie and I didn't have rain jackets!  Oh well.

Now we're heading to Amish Country in Lancaster, PA.

Sneak Peak

After settling in for the night at our hotel, we realized that Niagara Falls stays open until midnight. We couldn't resist a little sneak peak, so we drove there at 10:30 pm and had a preview of what is to come in the morning!
The picture at night isn't the best, but it made is excited for tomorrow!

Driving All Day

All we did today was DRIVE!
...and drive
....and drive
...and drive
...and navigate
...and eat suckers and drive some more!

We drove close to 12 hours and are in Niagara Falls, NY at a Holiday Inn. Tomorrow we will see the falls and head back towards home.

More Maine

Today we explored Acadia National Park and had planned on whale watching, but the trip was canceled due to inclement weather.  :(
Elizabeth braided Emilie's hair in preparation for the big day!

(Snuggle Time)

Trying to be as prepared as possible, we stopped by a Walgreens to pick up some Dramamine for whale watching.  They actually had lobsters in Walgreens!

Acadia National Park is beautiful!

We found a nice spot and had a picnic lunch.

There were lovely beaches too...although not too many were in the cold water!

Since the whale tour was canceled, we had some time to kill tonight. We ate at Taco Bell / KFC for supper and shopped a little in TJMAX. We didn't kill enough time, though, because it is now 8:20 and we're all in bed!  Oh well, tomorrow we will all be rested at least!

Maine

We loved driving up the beautiful coast to Maine!

  1. For lunch we picnicked on the rocks overlooking the water.

We ate at The Union Square Lobster Pot for supper.  People in town (we're in Ellsworth, ME) said it is the best!

Emilie helped dad suit up for the big lobster feast!

LOOK at that thing!

Our waitress had to instruct him on how to pull out the mud vein.

Emilie was enthralled we by the whole process and dad still smells like lobster even this morning!
